Administrative Team

Margaret Douglas, Head of School

Margaret DouglasMargaret Douglas holds a B.A. from Kenyon College and an M.S. in Elementary Education from Wheelock College. Margaret has many years of teaching experience at various grade levels, and is certified by the Department of Early Education and Care as both a Preschool and Infant/Toddler Teacher. She joined the Odyssey staff in 1995 as one of the school founders. Both her children attended Odyssey Day School.  Margaret is well loved by the school community. Her door is always open for parents or students who want to check in.

 

Kimm Sovie, Assistant Head of School, Co-Director of Early Childhood, Business Manager & Math Teacher

Kimm SovieKimm holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Salem State, as well as an M.A. in Teaching from Tufts. She is certified as a middle school math teacher and is certified by the Department of Early Education and Care as a Lead Preschool Teacher, Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher, and is Director II certified as well. A founder of the school, she joined the Odyssey staff in 1995. Two of her daughters attended Odyssey and two of her grandchildren are currently Odyssey Day School students.

 

Gail Cucurullo, Administrative Assistant

Gail CucurulloGail has taken numerous Early Childhood Education courses at Bunker Hill Community College, Middlesex Community College, and Salem State. She is Lead Teacher certified for Preschool by the Department of Early Education and Care, and has worked in a variety of preschools and business offices before joining Odyssey in 2008. Gail enjoys sharing stories about the comical antics of her two chubby, little pugs!

Early Education Lead Teachers

Brittney Murphy, Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher

Brittney Murphy graduated from Colby-Sawyer College in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and a minor in Psychology.  She was a student athlete, playing on the lacrosse team for 4 years. Her two passions in life are working with children and watching and playing sports.  She currently coaches high school soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Brittney is Lead Teacher certified in both Infant-Toddler and Preschool in addition to being Director 1 and Director 2 certified by the Department of Early Education and Care.

 

Samantha Crones, Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher

Sam holds a Bachelor ‘s degree in Education from Salem State University, and holds an EEC Certificate as Infant/Toddler Teacher and Preschool Teacher. Sam joined Odyssey Day School in May of 2012 as a teacher aide, worked as an assistant teacher for several years and is excited to continue to her career in this lead position.

 

Fernanda Bevilacqua-Galluzo, Toddler/Preschool Lead Teacher

Fernanda Bevilacqua-Galluzo

Fernanda was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary school education. She has also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a concentration in Child Advocacy and is a certified Infant through Kindergarten teacher by the Department of Early Education. She has been teaching children of all ages for the last 20 years. During the past 10 years she has been working as a Spanish teacher in various schools in the North Shore area, and joined the Odyssey Day School staff in 2008.

 

Colleen Shelton, Preschool Lead Teacher & Co-Director of the Early Childhood Program

Colleen has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood from Salem State College.  She is certified through the Department of Early Education and Care for the State of Massachusetts for Director I and Lead Preschool Teacher.  Colleen ran her own daycare for nine years.  She currently lives in Wakefield with her three children and enjoys crafts and scrap booking.

 

 

Julie Fauvel, Pre K Lead Teacher

Julie FauvelJulie has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of New Hampshire. She has also taken additional specialized coursework in Early Childhood Education from North Shore Community College. This enabled her to become certified through the Department of Early Education and Care for the State of Massachusetts for Infant, Toddler and Preschool. As a result, Julie has experience working with children infant through school age. Julie joined Odyssey Day School in 2010 as the Head PreK Teacher. Julie recently took up running as a hobby and her experiences with the Tough Mountain Challenge well prepared her for playground freeze tag.

 

Elementary and Middle School Faculty

Alex Flores, Pre K/Kindergarten Head Teacher

Alex holds a Masters in Elementary Education from Lesley University and is currently licensed to teach first through sixth graders by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Alex is an alumnus of Belmont Day School’s Teacher Training Program. She also holds an additional Master’s Degree in Teaching Sociology from Humboldt State University. She has many years of experience working with children ranging from directing summer camps to teaching in both public and independent settings. When not in the classroom, Alex enjoys yoga, weightlifting, and drawing comics.

 

Michelle Swanson, Grade 1-2 Head Teacher

Michelle SwansonMichelle Swanson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a second concentration in Geography from Salem State College. She is certified by the Department of Early Education and Care as a Infant/Toddler, Toddler and Preschool Teacher. She joined Odyssey Day School in 2010. Michelle resides in Saugus with her husband Chris and their two sons, Brandon and Beso (an adorable old Chihuahua/Papillon Mix)! Students bond with her over a mutual love for anything “Hello Kitty”.  Her son attends Odyssey.

 

Stephanie Wilkins, Grade 3-4 Head Teacher, Elementary Mentor Teacher & Professional Development Coordinator

Stephanie WilkinsStephanie holds a B.A. in Psychology from North Adams State College and an M.Ed. in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University. She is certified through EEC for Infant/Toddler/Toddler/Preschool. She has extensive experience teaching children of various ages and has held several administrative positions in the Human Services field. She is certified through the NCTL to teach an integrated Engineering/Science curriculum Engineering is Elementary. Stephanie joined the Odyssey Day School staff in 2000. Her son is a graduate of Odyssey Day School.

 

Carly Cavanagh, Grade 5-8 Head Teacher & Spanish Teacher

Carly joined the Odyssey Day School staff at the beginning of 2016.  She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Astrophysics, with a concentration in Spanish, from Wheaton College and is currently working on her Masters in Education at Merrimack College. She is certified through EEC for Infant/Toddler/Toddler/Preschool.  Previously, Carly was a director at a non-profit, representing schools throughout Massachusetts.  She has lead elementary school reading programs through the Clinton Foundation and worked on several programs to advocate for hands on science programs in schools.  Carly’s children, Jacob and Julia, are both elementary students at Odyssey.

 

 

 

 

Assistant Teachers

Ann Marie Murphy, Assistant Teacher

Ann Marie MurphyAnn Marie attended Massachusetts Bay Community College. She is lead teacher certified and has obtained her Child Development Associate Certificate. Ann Marie has many years of experience working with children, and has a special interest in crafts.

 

 

 

Naima El Machmachi, Assistant Teacher

Naima joined the Odyssey Day School staff in November 2015. She is working towards her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education at Bunker Hill Community College. Naima has many years of experience working with children and she is the mother of two children, ages 7 and 8.

 

 

 

Mayra Leon, Assistant Teacher

Mayra joined the staff at Odyssey Day School in August of 2015.  She is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program at North Shore Community College.  Mayra has worked with children for many years as a church volunteer.  She is a mother of two and both of her children attend Odyssey.

 

 

Jamie Sovie, Assistant Teacher

Jamie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and is teacher certified in Infant, Toddler and Preschool by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. In his free time Jamie enjoys cooking and going to rock ‘n roll concerts. Jamie lives in Woburn with his wife Alyson and their children, Kenny, Lilly and Ella who all attend Odyssey Day School.

Stephanie Marin, Assistant Teacher

Stephanie joined the staff at Odyssey Day School in February 2017.  Stephanie has extensive experience caring for young children, as a result of  being the Auntie to eight little nieces and nephews!

 

Meaghan Allen, Assistant Teacher

Meaghan joined the Odyssey Day School staff in March 2018. She has worked with children for many years. Most recently, she was licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care as a Certified Family Childcare Assistant where she worked full time for 8 years caring for children from infants to kindergarten age. She is currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program to become a Certified Preschool Teacher. She has two children, one whom currently attends Odyssey Day School.

Rosie joined the Odyssey Day School staff in September 2018. She is currently enrolled at Keiser University studying Psychology. Rosie enjoys reading and spending time with her children. She is a mother of two, one of whom attends Odyssey.

Holly joined the Odyssey Day School staff in September 2017. She is currently enrolled in education courses through Penn Foster. Holly is a mother of two and she enjoys watching her boys play sports.

Briana joined the Odyssey Day School staff in September 2017. She is currently attending Labouré College for Nursing. Briana has two children, one whom currently attends. She enjoys cooking and baking in her spare time.

 

Specialists

 

Emily Ross, Elementary Specialist and Art Teacher

Emily graduated from the University of Connecticut with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies. She moved to Massachusetts to complete the Shady Hill Teacher Training Program with a focus on elementary education. As a practicing artist and educator, Emily has had experience teaching children in various ways over the last 10 years. She has has spent her last three summers as an Art Instructor and Ceramics Specialist in camps and summer programs in Massachusetts. In her free time, Emily enjoys cooking, music, and spending time with her sweet pug, Layla.
