Odyssey Day School offers a special daycare program for infants and toddlers where we focus on individual
development. Our classroom environment goes beyond traditional daycare by being uniquely inviting and
filled with materials that capitalize on children’s
natural curiosity. Our experienced, veteran teachers
interact with children frequently to provide both comfort
and stimulation. In fact, ODS is well-known for its
unusually stable and mature teaching staff, many of
whom have been with us for over 10 years, which is a
great comfort to our parents. Classroom schedules and
routines provide a sense of security. Children receive
all of these benefits while having a lot of fun!
Every aspect of the child’s day, from story
times to free play and lunch, becomes a learning experience.
Individual and small group activities provide opportunities
to safely explore a wide variety of equipment and materials
while developing intellectual, communication, social,
motor and self-care skills. The classroom theme also
focuses on personal development, and mini-themes, drawn
from student interests, are explored throughout the
year.
Early literacy experiences include books, stories
and songs. Dramatic play toys and props, art materials,
blocks, stacking and sorting toys and simple puzzles
are available every day. Art supplies are abundant,
and children are introduced to a wide variety of media
including paint, markers, crayons, play dough and glue.
A texture table may be filled with water, sand, snow,
rice or another interesting substance. Music is used
throughout the day in a variety of forms. Children sing,
listen to recorded music, dance and use rhythm instruments.
Indoor and outdoor free play happen daily, and participation
in small group and whole class activities is encouraged
as children become developmentally ready. Young children
learn through play and have fun doing it.
Extended daycare is also available.
