The Pre-K/Kindergarten program includes both full-day
and half-day students. Using a theme-based, hands-on
approach, the Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten environment promotes
social and emotional growth while strengthening each
student’s academic abilities. An open-ended classroom
theme each year leads to theme-based units of instruction
which reflect student interests as well as academic
needs. Examples of units have included Wild Cats, Healthy
Eating, Space, and Dinosaurs.
During daily Meeting Time, the whole class gathers
to discuss the calendar, weather, current events and
sharing. At Meeting the students also play math and
language arts games including various graphing activities.
Through Learning Centers, the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age children have opportunities
to work in small groups to complete tasks. During Free
Choice Time, Snack Time and Outdoor Recess, the children
strengthen social skills and build friendships.
The Pre-Kindergarten / Kindergarten class receives Spanish instruction
and attends classes taught by specialists in Art, Music
and Physical Education. Full-day students have lunch,
recess and quiet rest time.
