A new tradition and extracurricular activity at Odyssey
Day School is our literary magazine, The Odyssey Siren.
Homer would be proud! The magazine gives our K-8 students
an opportunity to have their writing and illustrations
published both in hard copy and on our website, giving
them a sense of achievement and pride in their work.
Produced in the spring of each year, the magazine is
a collection of poems, short stories, essays, journal
entries, and classroom writing assignments. Head of
School Lori Conway serves as the Faculty Advisor/Editor
of the magazine and works with art teacher Jamie McDonough,
who serves as the Faculty Publisher. Two eighth grade
students are selected to serve as Student Editor and
Student Publisher as well, creating leadership opportunities
for those students with this passion. We encourage submissions
of both student and faculty writing and art during the
fall and winter months. All appropriate submissions
are accepted—there is no competition for space,
as this magazine is intended to encourage all students
(and adults!) willing to share their work to do so.
Beginning in the 2009-2010 school year, the literary
magazine has been mailed to alumnae and past parents
as a way of staying in touch with families who have
moved on from ODS. We enthusiastically welcome all submissions!
