We are pleased
to welcome you to the Odyssey Day School website.
We invite you to explore our school both online
and in person. When you visit us, you will see
that at ODS, we celebrate who children are and
who they are becoming. Through our developmental
approach to teaching, and our engaging, hands-on,
interdisciplinary and theme-based curriculum and
enrichment programs, children discover themselves
and develop confidence and talent through a combination
of their own efforts and the guidance of a caring,
skilled teaching staff. Building strong foundations
in citizenship and character is integral to our
mission, as is nurturing each child’s natural
curiosity and love of learning. Our students and
faculty are known for their capacity to genuinely
care for one another, to be imaginative and creative,
to be critical thinkers, to have fun, and to be
naturally supportive of our school community and
the larger world beyond it.
Whether your child enters in preschool or in
the elementary grades, students at ODS develop
wholesome, strong friendships and experience a
distinct sense of camaraderie in our small, close-knit
community. Our teachers are experts in child development,
and are able to tailor instruction to the style
and tempo that serves each child best. Small,
multi-age classrooms allow for differentiated
instruction, individual attention for all students,
extra challenge for gifted students, and opportunities
for children to alternate years of being the mentor
and the new kid on the block, looping with the
same teacher, a beneficial experience for all
involved.
Located in Wakefield, Massachusetts, ODS draws
its students from at least 20 cities and towns
in addition to Wakefield, including Reading, Melrose,
Stoneham, Andover, Winchester, and many others.
We are a diverse community of families whose backgrounds
add greatly to the texture of the school and the
academic and social experience for all.
We take our motto “Parents and Teachers
as Partners” very seriously, understanding
that children thrive when there is a mutually
trusting, supportive relationship between home
and school. There is much communication between
teachers and parents, as well as many opportunities
for parents to become involved at Odyssey Day
School and to form the same kinds of substantive
friendships with other parents that the students
make with each other. The goal at ODS is for everyone
to be well-known and integrated fully into the
community. Many schools make the claim, but few
really are like extended families. Odyssey Day
School is just that. It is a place where children
can be children…free of excessive peer pressure,
enjoying their childhoods, and in no race to grow
up too fast, too soon. It is a safe haven from
many of the problems encountered elsewhere…a
place where parents and staff provide the mutual
guidance necessary for children to navigate their
complex social worlds with support, reassurance
and acceptance. Here at ODS, children grow into
young men and women who believe in themselves
and know how to interact with adults, advocate
for themselves, and problem-solve in both academic
and real-world ways.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have
any questions about Odyssey Day School or if we
can be of further assistance to you as you consider
our school. I would welcome the opportunity to
discuss with you any matters that pertain to the
potential enrollment of your child at any time.
We look forward to meeting you soon.
