The Odyssey Story
Our Founding Philosophy: A Different Path to Learning
Odyssey Day School was founded three decades ago by three visionary women united by a common desire: to create a learning environment tailored to the individual child. They recognized that not all children learn the same way—they are not born from a cookie cutter shape to fit a single mold.
Our philosophy is rooted in celebrating the diverse spectrum of learning types, from kinesthetic and tactile to verbal and auditory. We enable children to explore a robust curriculum through thoughtful, integrated thematic units.
We committed to small classroom sizes to promote closeness, individualization, and differentiation at every level. We believe in empowering students to take ownership of their education, creating projects they genuinely enjoy—whether it's a poster, a complex LEGO creation, or a clay model. Learning here is, and always has been, a hands-on, project-based experience.
A History of Growth
In its beginning, Odyssey served students from preschool through 5th grade. The school’s early expansion was organically driven by the needs of the community and the founders themselves.
The realization struck when the marvelous women became mothers: where could they leave their own babies knowing they would be loved, nurtured, and welcomed? This led to the opening of our early childhood program, initially welcoming staff babies. The school further grew in response to parent requests, with the eventual opening of our middle school program to support students through their later academic years.
Thirty Years and Beyond
After 30 years of operating as a second home to thousands of students, Odyssey Day School continues to cherish and abide by the same mission and philosophy established all those years ago. Our commitment remains: creating a comfortable, exciting, and nurturing program where every child can flourish.
